COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi cross country team finally gets back in action on Friday, embarking on its furthest trip of the season to take part in the Gans Creek Classic, hosted by the University of Missouri.
The Islanders will compete in the 8k black race on the men's side and the 6k black race on the women's side, with the former set to start at 8:15 a.m. CT and the latter at 10:30 a.m. CT. The men square off against 25 other teams in their race, which includes Power 4 conference opponents in Nebraska, Ohio State and UCLA, while the women will join a field of 24 other schools that includes Baylor, Kansas and Texas Tech among others.
A&M-Corpus Christi continued its very nice start to the 2025 season at its last meet three weeks ago, taking home first place in the women's 5k and second place by just one point in the men's 5k at the Gerald Richey UTA Invitational. This marked the first team victory of the season for the women, making it back-to-back meets with at least one for the team as a whole after the men came out on top at Cross Country at the Seashore to open the season on August 29.
The Islanders also made it two straight meets where they had the top individual performer for both the men and the women, as freshman
Kye Lowth and sophomore
Elizabeth Khatevi took home the top prize in both of their respective races. Lowth earned his first collegiate victory after finishing with a time of 14:50.00, and Khatevi picked up her fourth overall and third in a row dating back to last season after crossing the line in 16:36.80, a performance that earned her a
second consecutive Southland Conference Women's Runner of the Week Award on September 16.
The Gans Creek Classic can be live streamed on SEC Network+. The live results for the meet will also be available to follow along as they happen.
