FRISCO, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team had one player take home a prestigious postseason honor on Friday morning, as it was revealed by the league office that pitcher
Zach Garcia was officially named to the Southland Conference All-Academic First Team for the 2025 season.
The honor marks the second time that Garcia has been named to an SLC All-Academic Team in his career, with the first coming in the form of a Second Team berth after the conclusion of the 2024 campaign.
"I'm super excited for Zach," head coach
Scott Malone said. "He has been part of the foundation of Islanders Baseball for the last four years. He's always been a 'get off the bus' guy, which means if he gets off the bus and he's pitching that day, everybody in the program knows we have a great chance to win."
Garcia, a native of New Braunfels, Texas, was the Islanders' ace on the mound in 2025, taking the ball for 14 starts while finishing with a 7-4 record, a 4.00 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. The lefty tossed 90 innings to finish tied for the top spot in the conference on the year while also coming in at second in starts, third in wins, 12
th in ERA and batting average against (.257) and 13
th in strikeouts (60). In addition to this, he was named to the SLC All-Defensive Team after posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in his 23 chances in the field.
By the end of the season, Garcia finished his A&M-Corpus Christi career as the all-time program leader in games started with 47 and innings pitched with 304.2 while tying the record for strikeouts with 258. In the classroom, he graduated with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 in his Biomedicals Sciences degree, doing so while finishing the Spring semester with a perfect mark of 4.00.
"This honor shows how hard he works on the field and how much time and effort he puts in off the field," Malone said. "Zach's been a great ambassador for Islanders Baseball, and he will be very successful in the next phase of his life."
