HOUSTON, Texas – After a five-month trek through both the indoor and outdoor portions of its schedule, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track & field team finally heads to its most important meet of the season this week, competing at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships for three days from Thursday through Saturday.
The Championships will be held at the Wendel D. Ley Track & Holloway Field at Rice University in Houston. The first day of the meet on Thursday kicks off at 12:30 p.m., with Friday's action starting at 2 p.m. and the finale on Saturday getting underway at 3 p.m.
The Islanders will be looking to build off their impressive showing at the Southland Indoor Championships back in March, where they took home fourth place on the women's side and a tie for eighth place on the men's side. The women's finish was their best at an Indoor Conference Championship in program history, surpassing their fifth-place marks from both 2008 and 2020, and the men improved one spot in the standings from how they did the year prior. As for the Outdoor Championships, the team will try to top their effort from the 2024 season, when the women finished eighth and the men finished ninth.
A&M-Corpus Christi comes into the meet having set fire to the record books over the last two months, setting 10 new program records and getting 35 of its athletes into the school's all-time top 10 in an event. Freshman
Elizabeth Khatevi and sophomore
Emmanuel Ekuma each took down multiple school records, and both will be in action in three different events during the week, with Khatevi competing in the women's 800m, 1,500m and 5,000m and Ekuma in the men's shot put, discus throw and hammer throw.

Bryan Jackson. "The record books and top-10 lists speak to that. I am so proud of this group. My message to them is to be themselves and be willing to take risks."
