NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team continues its current road swing with an important conference clash over the weekend, heading north to take on Stephen F. Austin for a three-game series starting on Friday.
The Islanders (10-21, 2-10 SLC) return to Southland play after a loss in their midweek contest to Houston in their most recent time out, falling by a final of 9-1 on Wednesday. An RBI double off the bat of
Trey Cruz got the team out to an early one-run lead, but they were unable to hold on, as the Cougars responded with nine unanswered runs of their own to pull away late in the game. This was A&M-Corpus Christi's eighth defeat in nine tries to a power conference opponent this year, with the lone win being a big one over No. 14 UCLA in the first game of the Kleberg Bank College Classic on February 21.
The series over the weekend marks an important one in the standings, as A&M-Corpus Christi enters play tied with the Lumberjacks (9-20, 2-10 SLC) for ninth place in the Southland heading into the back half of conference play. The all-time series between the two sits at 27-24 in favor of SFA after the Islanders dropped a pair of games in their most recent meeting in 2024, but prior to that, they had won eight of 13 contests dating back to 2018. Senior
Drake Kerr had the best showing among the team's returners last year, combining to go 3-9 at the plate with a walk, three runs scored and two stolen bases.
All three games of the series can be watched live on ESPN+. The live stats will also be available to follow along as they happen.
