CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Making her first staff addition under a new reign for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team, head coach Toyelle Wilson brings on
Tron Griffin as the Associate Head Coach.
Griffin reunites with Wilson after serving on her staff during her first head coaching role at Prairie View A&M for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons. He returns under her direction here on the Island after 10+ years of continued coaching experience including two stints as a head coach himself.

He knows how to develop players and has a high basketball IQ. He brings so much value to this program and I'm happy to go another round with him!"

Griffin comes after most recently serving as the associate head coach for the 2024-25 women's basketball team. He spent the three seasons prior as the head women's basketball coach at Daytona State College. In his first season, Griffin led the Falcons to a second-place Central Conference finish and an FCSAA State Tournament appearance with a 15-8 record. The Falcons boasted an upset to #15 South Georgia Tech while winning the SGTC Thanksgiving Tournament. 12 of the players Griffin developed earned opportunities to move on to the next level in the last two years of his tenure with the Falcons.
Griffin arrived at Daytona State after serving 2020-21 as the Athletic Director at Atlantic High School, in nearby Port Orange.
In 2018-20, Griffin served as an assistant coach at Stetson University. He helped coach the Hatters to an appearance in the WNIT in 2019 after a second-place finish in the A-SUN Conference. Prior to Stetson, Griffin served the 2017-18 season as an assistant coach at Georgia State. While with the Panthers, Griffin was responsible for scouting, game preparation, the development of post players, and academic support while assisting with recruiting.
In 2016-17, Griffin made his debut collegiate head coaching role at Truett McConnell University, an NAIA program in Cleveland, Ga. During this season, Griffin led the Lady Bears to a 15-16 mark, setting new program records for most overall victories (15), most conference victories (11), and longest home winning streak (6). The team also posted its highest-ever conference finish in program history. Under Griffin's leadership at TMU, the Lady Bears ranked 11th in the NAIA (DII) in field goal percentage defense (.360).
Griffin made the move to TMU after serving four years as an assistant coach and later associate head coach at Prairie View A&M. His first two years were spent under Wilson, where he helped lead the Lady Panthers to two SWAC tournament championships and two NCAA Tournament berths where they took on the top national seeds in Baylor and UConn. Griffin helped coach two SWAC Players of the Year in Latia Williams (2013) and Jeanette Jackson (2015). Jackson was also named SWAC Championship MVP in 2014 and led the league in scoring and assists. Jackson went on to play professionally with several teams in Europe.
Prior to his stint at Prairie View A&M, Griffin served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Bethune-Cookman University, and two seasons as an assistant coach at Florida State College at Jacksonville. In 2008-09, Griffin served as the head girls' varsity basketball coach at Union County High School in Lake Butler, Fla., where he led the team to a District Championship with a 21-5 record and State ranking of No. 7.
Griffin began his coaching career as the assistant boys' varsity basketball coach at Mandarin High School in Jacksonville in 2006-07.
In college, Griffin competed for the Bethune-Cookman football team from 2002-06, helping lead the Wildcats to a MEAC Championship in 2002 and the NCAA Division I-AA football playoffs in 2002 and 2003. He was also a member of the men's basketball team during the 2003-04 season. Griffin completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Educational Studies with a concentration on Business Education in 2006 at Bethune-Cookman University and a Master of Science degree in Management and Leadership at Western Governors University in 2021.
A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Griffin and his wife, Sheena, have three children, Kimora, Kaidyn, and Karson.
