LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team looks to get back on track in another conference series this weekend, traveling to Louisiana to take on McNeese in a three-game set that kicks off on Thursday.
The Islanders (13-24, 5-13 SLC) did not play in a midweek game since their most recent series last weekend, where they were swept in three games by Southeastern at Chapman Field. They had a hard time keeping the Lions off of the scoreboard in this set, surrendering 34 runs across the trio of contests while scoring only 10 on offense themselves. The final game on Sunday did have some positives that A&M-Corpus Christi will try to carry into this week, though, with the team crushing a season single-game high three home runs in what was its best power surge of the year so far. Cade Sanchez tagged the other one for his first of the season.
After facing a Southeastern team that currently ranks in a tie for first place in the Southland, A&M-Corpus Christi now squares off against the Cowboys (26-6, 14-4 SLC), who join HCU as the two other teams level with the Lions at the top of the conference entering the weekend. The hosts come into play as one of the hottest teams in the entire country, previously ripping off a 12-game win streak before finally having it snapped in their most recent game against No. 9 LSU on Tuesday. The Islanders will be trying to turn around their recent fortunes in the all-time series, as they have lost each of their last five meetings with McNeese and have not walked away with a series win since they took two of three at home during the 2018 campaign.
