Mykytyn Named SLC Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – After a 2-0 week, Yana Mykytyn of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team was tabbed the SLC Player of the Week announced by the league office Tuesday.

Mykytyn went 3-0 herself on the week, helping the Islanders defeat both New Orleans and SFA for an undefeated road swing. It improved her own conference record to 5-1 in singles play and 5-0 in doubles play.

Mykytyn won a pair of three-set duals at No. 3 singles.  She took a 2-6, 6-3, 10-5 decision from the Privateers before aiding a narrow 4-3 match win against the Ladyjacks with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 singles victory. She additionally posted a 6-3 win with partner Kseniya Ramanouskaya at No. 1 doubles against SFA, as that match inevitably came down to the doubles point. The duo was also up 5-4 at No. 1 doubles against UNO before the other courts clinched.

"We are incredibly proud of Yana! She has grown and matured so much. She's always had a lot of talent and is a great athlete, but she has learned to play incredibly smart, disciplined tennis! Yana has great courage and heart, and she's the kind of player you want on the court when the big match is on the line. She showed that in these matches in doubles and singles!" said head coach Steve Moore

Mykytyn and the Islanders men's and women's tennis teams will be back in action Thursday when they compete in their final road matches of the year at Texas Lutheran.
