FRISCO, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team had one of its own earn a Southland Conference postseason award on Saturday afternoon, as it was announced by the league office that graduate
Paige Allen was named as a member of the conference's 2024-25 All-Defensive Team.
The honor this year marks the third different time that Allen has been named to the SLC All-Defensive Team during her five-year collegiate career, also accomplishing the feat in the 2023-24 and 2021-22 seasons.
"I am very proud of Paige and our team," said head coach
Royce Chadwick. "We have had a defensive-minded team all year, headlined by the all-time steals leader in the history of our program in Paige. She is very deserving of the All-Defensive Team recognition."
Allen, a native of Kansas City, Missouri, served as the anchor of the Islanders' defense all season, finishing tied for first in the Southland in steals per game with 2.3 and tied for 17
th in blocks per game with 0.5. She also sits in fourth place in the league in rebounding with 8.1 per game, 6.2 of which came on the defensive end. All three of these figures mark new career-highs for the guard.
Led by Allen, A&M-Corpus Christi put together a very impressive season on defense as a unit, finishing tied for 10
th in the country out of 353 Division I teams in field goal percentage allowed at a mark of just 35.8 percent. The team also finished tied for 48
th in points allowed per game (58.1), tied for 54
th in steals per game (9.8), tied for 73
rd in three-point percentage allowed (29.0%), tied for 94
th in blocks per game (3.6) and 100
th in turnovers forced per game (17.55).
Allen and the Islanders most recently wrapped up the regular season on Wednesday, earning the No. 8 seed in the Southland Conference Tournament. They will start their run in Lake Charles on Monday in the very first game of the bracket, squaring off against No. 5 Northwestern State at 11 a.m. at the Legacy Center.
