Women’s Tennis Takes SLC Winning Streak on Road to SFA, NWST

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team will look to extend its already historic winning streak against Southland opponents, taking it on the road to face SFA Saturday and Northwestern State Monday.

It will be the first of two conference road swings for the Islanders (12-1, 2-0 SLC) this year, first facing SFA Saturday at 1 p.m. before rounding out the trip Monday at 11 a.m. at Northwestern State.

The Islanders are fighting to extend a 28-match win streak against conference teams, having not dropped a match to one since the 2022 season. It is the longest winning streak ever by any tennis team in the league.

"It's another big Southland road weekend! It's what we love, and is what we've worked so hard for! We've been training for these moments since August, and these girls have earned the right to be confident and play with freedom. We believe very deeply in this team and we beleive they will fight will all their hearts! We approach every match the same way, controlling every present point with intensity and within our process! Go Islanders," said head coach Steve Moore

The young team has already added two SLC wins to that record this year, defeating both McNeese and Southeastern at home last weekend. Both started with a pair of doubles wins, with the duos of Kseniya Ramanouskaya/Yana Mykytyn and Ana Veroux/Juliette Jalai both posting the 2-0 conference doubles record.

Jalai and Mykytyn have also gone 2-0 in singles play through the SLC slate so far, coming at courts four and six, respectively. Also with the 2-0 singles record is Josefa Fuenzalida who has battled it out at court five.

Overall, Jalai has refused to drop a singles match this year with the 12-0 individual record. She has yet to even concede a set, with all her victories coming in straight sets.

The Islanders lead SFA 11-8 in the all-time series and have won each of the last seven meetings with the Lumberjacks. They also hold a 13-12 edge all-time over Northwestern State, with their last loss to the Lady Demons coming in 2022 which was also the last time A&M-Corpus Christi dropped a match to a conference opponent.
