CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team closes out the 2024-25 regular season at home on Wednesday, hosting Lamar at 7 p.m. in what is the team's final game before heading to Lake Charles for the Southland Conference Tournament this weekend.
The Islanders (15-15, 7-12 SLC) clinched their spot in the dance with a pair of big wins in their return home last week, as they took down both New Orleans on Thursday and Southland regular season champions Southeastern on Saturday. The team handed the Lady Lions their first loss in conference play in the latter, coming away with a thrilling 54-52 victory after holding on in what was their closest game of the year to date. This win put the Islanders right on the doorstep of the postseason, and after McNeese lost to the Cardinals (21-7, 16-3 SLC) later that night, they officially locked up the eighth and final spot in the tournament.
Wednesday's game is not without intrigue despite this, however, as A&M-Corpus Christi will look to continue its positive momentum by enacting some revenge against Lamar for the first meeting between the two teams back on February 6 in Beaumont. The Islanders were taken down by a final score of 63-57 in this game, rallying late but failing to climb out of a hole dug thanks to a third quarter in which they were outscored 19-13.
On the individual side of the last contest against the Cardinals, the team was led by senior guard
Tymberlin Criswell, who scored 14 points on 4-9 shooting from the field. This was the start of a hot stretch for Criswell, with the Houston native averaging 10.3 points per game since that day and reaching double figures in each of her last four times out. Graduate
Paige Allen also had a nice performance against Lamar, recording one of her six double-doubles on the year by scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
