CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team stays home for an important conference series over the weekend, playing host to Southland-leading UTRGV for a three-game set from Friday to Sunday.
The Islanders (9-18, 1-8 SLC) will try to turn around their fortunes when they continue their current homestand, as in their last time out, they fell to Houston-Victoria in a heartbreaker at Chapman Field on Tuesday. The team was able to bring a lead into the later stages of this game but faltered near the finish line, falling behind after allowing the Jaguars to put together a four-run eighth inning and failing to respond with any runs of their own thereafter. The loss was A&M-Corpus Christi's second to UHV on the season, marking its first time ever losing two games in a row in the all-time series between the two.
As for the weekend, the Islanders square off against a Vaqueros (17-7, 10-2 SLC) team that currently ranks No. 23 in all of Division I in RPI coming into play. They will be aiming to take a series over UTRGV for the first time since 2022, as in their meetings in each of the last two seasons, they were only able to walk away with one win in three tries. Each game of the set will also count toward the South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union, where the Islanders currently hold a 26-18 advantage over the Vaqueros.
All three games of the series can be watched live on ESPN+ with
Steven King on the call. The live stats for each will also be available to follow along as they happen.
