CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team returns home for a new slate of games this week, starting things off first with a midweek matchup against Houston-Victoria at Chapman Field on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
The Islanders (9-17) come back to campus after playing their last five games on the road, a trip that took them to three different cities in six days. They started by splitting a pair of midweek contests, falling to Texas A&M on Tuesday while beating Prairie View A&M the next day, before then getting swept by Lamar in their conference series over the weekend. Despite the record, the team got a very nice week from senior
Austin Russell, who reached base in 11 of his 21 plate appearances while also scoring five runs and driving in two.
In the matchup on Tuesday, the Islanders will look to enact revenge on the Jaguars (25-7), as they were taken down by the 10
th ranked NAIA team in the country in the previous meeting between the two back on February 26 in Victoria. This snapped what had been a five-game winning streak for A&M-Corpus Christi over UHV in the all-time series, with its last loss coming back on March 29, 2017. During the game in February, senior
Isaac Webb led the game off with his first home run of the season, and senior
Cade Sanchez paced the team in hits with two while also driving in a run of his own.
Tuesday's game can be watched live on ESPN+ with
Steven King on the call, and the live stats will also be available to follow along as they happened.
