THIBODAUX, La. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis teams will each look to extend on the historic marks they've already established within the Southland Conference when they move full force into league play with matchups at Nicholls and New Orleans.
The Islanders will start their road swing Saturday at Nicholls, with the women (16-2, 2-1 SLC) opening the day at 11 a.m. before the men (14-4) get going in their conference opener at 2 p.m. that day. Both teams will then head to New Orleans for matchups also at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Monday.
On the men's side, the Islanders are one of the winningest programs in conference history across all sports with the second most total championships at 22. Among the tennis programs, they hold the conference records with 12 regular season titles and 10 tournament championships.
Nathan Favier,
Tom Berry, and
Harry Fouzas have already gotten a taste of that standard this year, winning their respective brackets to sweep the 2024 Southland Conference Fall Individual Championships. Favier won matches against Lamar, UIW, and the 2024 Tournament MVP from NJIT to secure the singles bracket championship. Berry/Fouzas teamed up for doubles play and won all three of their matches in straight sets to win the doubles bracket.
The women have already begun their conference slate, journeying towards their third consecutive regular season championship after defending the title the last two years. Last year saw a pair of championships as they also took home the tournament title in 2024. It saw them making their fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, one of just 34 teams out of 328 programs in NCAA Division I to make an appearance in each of the last four NCAAs.
They also hold the conference record for most tournament championships on the women's side, with the 2024 season earning them their seventh for another conference record of seven NCAA Tournament appearances.
The men are an undefeated 22-0 all-time over Nicholls and lead New Orleans 12-3 all-time. The women hold a 17-2 advantage over Nicholls and an 11-2 edge over New Orleans.
