BEAUMONT, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team continues its ongoing road trip with a Southland Conference showdown over the weekend, heading to Beaumont to take on Lamar for a three-game series starting on Friday.
The Islanders (9-14, 1-5 SLC) enter the weekend after splitting their two games during the week, falling to Texas A&M on Tuesday before bouncing back and taking down Prairie View A&M one day later. Christian Smith-Johnson earned the No. 1 spot on SportsCenter's Top 10 after he tumbled over the wall and crashed into the bullpen to rob what would've been a grand slam.
A&M-Corpus Christi now faces a tough test in the Cardinals (16-7, 3-6 SLC), who were tabbed as the favorites in the Southland preseason poll before the year. The Islanders will look pull off a repeat performance of last year's meeting between the two, when they managed to take two of three games against the conference-leading Cardinals at Chapman Field. This marked their second straight series win in the all-time series, which came after they hadn't won one since all the way back in 2014. Senior
