CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis teams will finalize their nonconference schedule at home with a pair of doubleheaders against Howard Payne beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
The Islanders will get this final chance to tune up before heading full swing into conference play this weekend, with the men hoisting a 12-4 record while the women are off to a 14-2 (2-1 SLC) start to the year.
Both squads are coming off two 4-0 victories at home last week over Texas Wesleyan, never relenting a point through the doubleheader. The men additionally had five different players register a singles victory on the day.
Omar Suarez leads the men in individual wins with the 8-2 record, while
Nicholas Niox Chateau and
Nicolas Trebuchet follow behind at seven wins apiece. Adding depth to the Islanders' lineup, the men are 19-2 overall this year between No. 5 and No. 6 singles with
Maxime Salesses going untouched 5-0 at court six.
In doubles play, both teams have excelled with the men seeing
Matthieu Coignet/
Josef Zapletal hoisting nine doubles wins as a duo this year. Suarez has paired with five different teammates this year to aid a 10-2 doubles record himself.
The women have been backed by the dominant doubles performance this season by their top court pairing of
Kseniya Ramanouskaya/
Yana Mykytyn who are 11-1 this year from No. 1 doubles including 3-0 in conference play.
In singles,
Juliette Jalai and
Josefa Fuenzalida have emerged as the team leaders with 13-1 and 12-1 individual records, respectively. Similarly to the men, the bottom half of the women's lineup has been near perfect with a combined 30-2 record between courts four, five, and six.
