Softball Struggles to Match Northern Colorado and Colorado State in Losses

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team couldn't match the tempo that was set by both Northern Colorado and Colorado State Saturday, falling 11-2 and 12-4 respectively on day two of the Colorado Classic.

The Islanders (6-13) saw an inning in both games get away from them, which allowed their two opponents on the day to take a win each. Against Northern Colorado, that inning was the first as the Islanders couldn't dig out of the early 7-0 deficit.

Against the hosting Rams, A&M-Corpus Christi had actually taken possession of a 4-3 lead after their offensive outing in the top of the fifth. However, Colorado State rectified that situation and more, scoring eight in the bottom frame to run away with the lead.

Having herself a day, though, was Crystal Davila who went 3-for-4 between the two games including knocking two hits in the second game. She additionally scored three times, again registering a pair in the night cap.

Ripley Welker drove in all four runs in the contest against Colorado State with the 2-for-3 plate performance that game. It included a double down the left field line in the fourth inning that plated Davila and Monee Montilla.

Her base-hit in the fifth drove Davila home again, in addition to scoring Natalie Garcia on the play as well for the four-RBI game.

Siarah Galvan had the most effective outing in the circle for the Islanders today, pitching 4.0 innings in relief against Northern Colorado where she only conceded one earned run while striking out five of the batters she faced.

On deck:
The Islanders will wrap up their trip in Colorado tomorrow, playing in a rematch against Northern Colorado at 12 p.m. to finalize a five-game weekend.
