CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team will finally make their return home and look to defend theirs as they welcome UTSA to the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center Monday at 1 p.m.
The Islanders (9-0) will be putting a 45-match home winning streak to the test, having not lost at home since the 2021 season. They will also be looking to extend their unbeaten run to 2025 so far, having won their first nine straight for the second time in three years.
"UTSA is always a great rivalry, and they have a very strong team this year!" said head coach
Steve Moore. "Our young girls are tough, and they are developing and improving rapidly. We are very excited to compete tomorrow against a good team that we know will be a tough challenge! It's always the same with us: control what we can control with our process and intensity. Go Islanders, a family of fighters!"
Last week saw three road victories for the Islanders, with a doubleheader sweep over Prairie View before defeating Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday. Freshman
Juliette Jalai has continued to excel in singles, leading the team with an 8-0 record divvied up between courts three through six.
Three other young Islanders come right behind her with perfect 6-0 singles records, including freshmen
Leticia Tarocco,
Josefa Fuenzalida, and
Yana Mykytyn.
In doubles play, dominating at the No. 1 position is Mykytyn and partner freshman
Kseniya Ramanouskaya hoisting an untouched 8-0 record. Similarly, the duo of Tarocco and Fuenzalida has also posted an unblemished record of 5-0 all from No. 2 doubles. The Islanders have yet to drop a doubles point, and is a combined 13-0 from courts one and two.
They lead UTSA 15-7 in the all-time series and are 12-1 against the Roadrunners when playing them at home.
