BEAUMONT, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team heads back on the road to continue its longest road trip of the season this week, traveling to Beaumont to take on Lamar on Thursday at 7 p.m. before wrapping up the four-game stretch in Nacogdoches on Saturday at 2 p.m. in a contest against Stephen F. Austin.
The Islanders (11-11, 3-8 SLC) started off their trip last week, earning a hard-fought victory in the opener against East Texas A&M in Commerce but later falling to UTRGV in the second South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union, of the 2025 season. The first game saw them complete their biggest comeback of the season, erasing a deficit that reached as high as 14 points to eventually take home a well-earned victory by double digits themselves. The game in Edinburg did not go as smoothly, however, as the team managed to put up just 37 points in what was its lowest scoring output of the season to date.
The opening game of this week will be a unique matchup for the Islanders, as they complete their first cycle through conference play with their first showdown of the season against the Cardinals (14-6, 9-2 SLC). The last time that the two teams met came in the finals of last season's Southland Conference Tournament, where A&M-Corpus Christi walked away with a 68-61 upset victory to punch its ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. This game saw perhaps the best performance in the collegiate career of graduate
Paige Allen, who scored a career-high 22 points to go along with 12 rebounds en route to being named the Tournament MVP.
To wrap things up, the Islanders play a rematch of their first conference game of the season against the Ladyjacks (18-5, 8-4 SLC), who took them down in their first meeting of the season on December 14 at the Dugan Wellness Center. Despite having four different players reach double figures in scoring on this day, they were done in by a poor second quarter, allowing SFA to outscore them 17-8 and build a cushion that would last the rest of the afternoon. This moved the all-time series to 24-4 in favor of the Ladyjacks, which is the Islanders' lowest winning percentage against a current Southland opponent by a good margin.
Both games will be available to watch live on ESPN+. They can also be listened to live for free on 1440 AM K-E-Y-S with Doug Kesterson on the call.
