CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – What was originally going to act as the home openers for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis teams will now turn into a rematch at View Tuesday after weather affected court conditions.
The Islanders women (6-0) and men (4-0) will head back up to Prairie View to avoid playing on their home courts that were holding water due to humidity and fog in the area. The teams will now face off in Prairie View Tuesday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. in another doubleheader face-off similar to last week.
The Islanders opened the season against the Panthers, with each team posting a pair of 4-0 victories early on for a sweeping start to 2025.
The men have yet to drop a point this year, securing all four of their wins in 4-0 decision. Newcomer
Maxime Salesses leads the team with three singles wins from the No. 6 spot. Senior
Tom Berry has notched two singles wins between courts two and three, while sophomore
Nicholas Niox Chateau has already also come away with multiple singles victories between courts four and five.
The women additionally played a pair of matches at Our Lady of the Lake this past Friday, jumping out to a 6-0 start for the third year in a row, their sixth season ever to go beatless through their first six matches.
Freshman
Juliette Jalai has matched the team record, taking her team-leading win total to six after garnering two singles wins between courts four and five on Friday.
Freshman
Yana Mykytyn and freshman
Kseniya Ramanouskaya continued their dominance at No. 1 doubles, improving to 5-0 in doubles play as a duo this season all at court one.
Despite this delaying the home openers for the Islanders, the women should be back Thursday when they host Texas A&M-Kingsville at 11 a.m. at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center where they will look to defend a 45-match home winning streak dating back to 2021. The men will wait until Feb. 21 during their H-E-B Tournament of Champions to play back on their home court.
