CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team returns back home this weekend after a quick midweek road trip, hosting Prairie View A&M in a three-game series for the first action of the season at Chapman Field.
The Islanders (3-6) most recently were handed a tough loss in their first game away from Corpus Christi on Wednesday, falling to Houston Victoria – the No. 11 ranked NAIA team in the country – by a final score of 6-4. They got off to a very hot start thanks to a leadoff home run from senior
Isaac Webb, but some troubles on the mound and in the field during the middle innings placed them in a gap too wide to overcome despite rallying to pull within a run late in the game.
This weekend's games will be the first ones on campus for the Islanders since May of last year, as they opened up this season with their first eight games at Whataburger Field, getting swept in their opening series against Kansas before turning around and picking up a trio of wins over UCLA and Washington State. In 2024, the team went 10-15 in games played at Chapman Field, just a few games behind its 10-13 record away from home.
The series against the Panthers (4-5) has historically been a successful one for A&M-Corpus Christi, with the team winning 12 of the 15 all-time meetings. The two split their two matchups last season, with the Islanders winning the first game 10-3 at home on April 2 before falling by a final of 10-8 in Prairie View three weeks later. Senior
Stephen Hom showed out in the two games by going a combined 5-8 at the plate with a double and five RBI, and Webb went 4-6 with three runs scored in the latter.
