Women's Basketball Starts Final Homestand With Important Games Against New Orleans, Southeastern

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team begins its final homestand of the 2024-25 season this week, returning to the American Bank Center for a pair of very important games against New Orleans on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Southeastern at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The Islanders (13-15, 5-12 SLC) recently wrapped up their final road trip last week, first picking up a very nice win over Nicholls in the opener behind the strength of a 44-point defensive clinic, their fewest allowed to a Division I opponent this season. They were then taken down by McNeese in the finale, a loss that moved the team back into a tie with the Cowgirls for the eighth and final spot in the Southland Conference Tournament with three games still to play for both.

In their first game this week, the Islanders will try to recapture the offensive magic from their last game against the Privateers (3-23, 3-14 SLC) back on January 2, when they scored 78 points in what was their best performance on that end of the floor during conference play this season. The team had four different players reach double figures back on that day, led by 16 from graduate Mireia Aguado on an efficient 7-13 shooting from the field. Graduate Paige Allen finished right behind Aguado with 15, and graduate Nabaweeyah McGill and senior Tymberlin Criswell rounded out the group with 13 and 12 respectively. McGill's scoring came from a 3-4 shooting performance from downtown, which set her new career-high for three pointers made in a single game.

A&M-Corpus Christi's second game of the week comes against a Lady Lions (24-3, 18-0 SLC) team that enters play as one of the hottest teams in the entire country, having won a whopping 18 games in a row and rising up to No. 19 on College Insider's Mid-Major Top 25 for this week. The Islanders fell to Southeastern on January 4 in what was the fourth game of its current streak, falling behind by 14 at the half and failing to close the gap despite playing better over the final two quarters.

Both games will be available to watch live on ESPN+ with Doug Kesterson on the call.
