DALLAS, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis team will look to recoup from its first loss of the season, taking a fight-back mentality on the road to north Texas to face SMU Tuesday and UT-Arlington Wednesday.
The Islanders (8-1) will make a stop at SMU for a 12 p.m. match Tuesday before heading over to UT-Arlington, who just competed in A&M-Corpus Christi's tournament this past weekend, for an 11 a.m. face-off Wednesday.
A&M-Corpus Christi is 8-0 this year playing away from home, including 5-0 in true road matches.
"We are excited for another opportunity to bond together as a team, and battle together against tough opponents! We have great respect for SMU and UT-Arlington as long, respectful rivalries! Our mindset is always the same: control what we can control and present with intensity! We are excited for the opportunity to compete and improve tomorrow," said head coach
Steve Moore.
Prior to dropping their first match of the season this past weekend to a tough Louisiana squad, the Islanders had been one of the last eight men's teams in the country to be lossless. It had helped them climb into the top 30 percent of all Division I tennis programs last week, reaching a #80 ranking in ITA.
Particularly shining for the Islanders have been
Omar Suarez and
Nicholas Niox Chateau, who lead the team with five singles wins apiece on the year.
Nicolas Trebuchet is right behind them at an untouched 4-0 singles record.
The Islanders have yet to drop a doubles point this year, posting an 18-6 overall duals record.
Matthieu Coignet/Jozef Zapletal have played ferocious doubles so far this season, going 7-1 as a pair to lead all duos in wins. Suarez has also teamed up with
Maxime Salesses to hoist a 5-0 mark.
The Islanders will be going for their first win over the Mustangs who leads the all-time series 3-0. A&M-Corpus Christi holds a 12-6 advantage in the all-time series over UT-Arlington, last playing each other in 2023 when the Islanders won it 4-2.
