CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team gets back in action for one of its biggest tests of the year this weekend, hosting a trio of big-name opponents in UCLA, Michigan State and Washington State at Whataburger Field for the 2025 Kleberg Bank College Classic.
The Islanders (0-4) will get their run at the tournament started on Friday, when they square off against the Bruins (4-0) in the second game of the day at 4 p.m. They then face off against the Spartans (4-0) on Saturday at 6 p.m. before closing things out against the Cougars (0-4) at 3 p.m. The team will also match up against Washington State for an extra game on Monday after the event, which is currently scheduled to take place at 1 p.m., also at Whataburger Field.
A&M-Corpus Christi is looking to shake off a tough opening series against Kansas last week, as it was swept in four games that took place from Friday to Monday. The Islanders hung in close in the season opener, pushing things to extras before falling in 10 innings by a final score of 8-5, but over the last three games, they allowed 36 runs while scoring just one themselves. Despite this, the team did get an excellent start to the season from senior
Cade Sanchez, with the infielder going 6-14 at the plate with two walks and three doubles.
As for this week's matchups, the two games against Washington State will be the first for the Islanders in program history. They have previously squared off in one game apiece against UCLA and Michigan State, falling to the former in 2010 by a final score of 11-3 and the latter in 2016 by a final of 9-3.
