THIBODAUX, La. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team departs to Louisiana for its final road trip of the 2024-25 regular season this week, first stopping in Thibodaux for a matchup with Nicholls on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. before wrapping up its away slate against McNeese in Lake Charles on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Islanders (12-14, 4-11 SLC) split their most recent week of games at the American Bank Center last week, picking up a dominant 20-point victory over Houston Christian on Thursday before dropping a heartbreaker in overtime against Incarnate Word on Saturday. The win to start the homestand snapped what had been a three-game losing streak coming in, and it was the team's largest margin of victory since conference play kicked off in December.
The first stop of the trip will come against a Colonels (16-9, 9-7 SLC) team that took down the Islanders in the last matchup between the two back on January 25. The game was tight throughout the majority of that afternoon, but A&M-Corpus Christi faded in the fourth quarter, getting outscored 21-8 and digging itself into a hole too deep to climb out of. Monae' Duffy led the way in scoring for the team, with each pouring in 11 apiece to make up the double-figure performances on the day.
The Islanders will then take on the Cowgirls (9-17, 4-11 SLC) on Saturday in what has the potential to be a very important matchup. As of Wednesday afternoon, the two teams are tied for eighth in the Southland Conference standings, which would represent the final spot in the conference tournament at the conclusion of the regular season. McNeese got the better of A&M-Corpus Christi the first time they met on January 27, pulling ahead of the Islanders in the final stretch after the score was tied at 53 with just 51 seconds on the clock.
