Women's Basketball Returns Home for Matchups Against HCU, UIW

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team returns home to continue with the back half of its Southland Conference schedule this week, playing host to Houston Christian on Thursday for Education Day at 10:30 a.m. before then squaring off against Incarnate Word on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Islanders (11-13, 3-10 SLC) recently wrapped up their longest road trip of the 2024-2025 season, playing four games away from home since their last game at the American Bank Center on January 27. The team started things off on a high note, securing a 55-45 win over East Texas A&M in Commerce in the opener, but after that, they dropped three consecutive games to UTRGV, Lamar and Stephen F. Austin. As of this week, they currently sit in a tie for eighth place in the Southland, level with both McNeese and East Texas A&M as far as conference records go.

A&M-Corpus Christi will first try to get things turned around against the Huskies (6-17, 3-11 SLC) on Thursday, an opponent that the team saw success against in the first meeting between the two back on January 16. The Islanders earned a hard-fought 62-55 win in Houston on that day, holding on down the stretch due in large part to a dominant day on the glass, grabbing 46 rebounds as a team as opposed to just 30 from HCU. Graduate Paige Allen had one of her best performances of the season in this game, grabbing 13 of those boards while also scoring 17 points and picking up two steals.

The second game of the homestand on Saturday will be an opportunity for revenge for the Islanders, as they were taken down by the Cardinals (14-9, 9-5 SLC) when they previously matched up on January 18. The two played each other very close for the majority of that afternoon, but a 24-9 outburst from UIW in the fourth quarter buried any hopes that A&M-Corpus Christi had of walking away with the win. The best showing of that game for the Islanders came from senior Tymberlin Criswell, who scored 14 points on 4-8 shooting from the field, 2-5 from three-point range and 4-4 from the free throw line.

Both games will be available to watch live on ESPN+ with Doug Kesterson on the call.
