CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team finally makes its return back home in its first action out of the winter break this week, getting its conference schedule rolling once again with showdowns at the Hilliard Center against Nicholls on Monday at 5 p.m. CT and New Orleans on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
This week's games will mark the first for the Islanders (1-8, 0-2 SLC) in Corpus Christi in more than five weeks, with its most recent outing in front of the home crowd coming all the way back on November 20 in a game against Texas State at the Dugan Wellness Center. After that date, the team played five games in a row on the road, making nonconference stops at Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts and UTEP before then opening up Southland play against Lamar and Stephen F. Austin right before separating for the holidays. The Islanders have played just three games at home so far in 2025-26, earning a 100-30 win in the season opener against College of Biblical Studies but dropping the aforementioned contest to the Bobcats as well as one against Santa Clara.
In its return to play, A&M-Corpus Christi will first try to take down Nicholls (5-4, 1-1 SLC), which split its start to conference play with a loss against UIW and a win over HCU. The Colonels are led in scoring by sophomore guard Jessalyn Jalomo, who comes into play averaging 12.1 points per game, and they recently made a big addition back to their lineup in 2024-25 leading scorer Tanita Swift, with the senior guard making her return from injury with 14 points in each of their last two contests. Last season, the Islanders managed to split the season series, falling at home on January 25 before then going to Thibodaux and picking up an important win on February 20 behind 12 points off the bench by current senior and Louisiana native
Samora Watson, who enters play this week as the team's current highest scorer at 12.4 points per game.
After this, the Islanders will then try to continue their recent dominance over the Privateers (0-10, 0-2 SLC), whom they have beaten in 13 straight games dating back to 2019 and 21 of 24 games overall since the two first met back in 2014. Like Nicholls, New Orleans also opened its Southland slate with contests against HCU and UIW, falling to both at home in the Big Easy. The Privateers are led by senior guard Shanihya Brown, who currently ranks fifth in the conference in scoring at 13.8 points per game.
Both games will be available to watch live on ESPN+ with Doug Kesterson on the call.
