Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Islanders Run into Second Half Trouble, Falls at SFA

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – In a tale of two halves, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball unfortunately saw a cold backend as SFA reversed a halftime deficit to take Wednesday night's contest in William R. Johnson Coliseum.

The Islanders (4-6, 1-1 SLC) started on the right foot, building a 34-25 lead at the break after the first half saw minimal turnovers and an overwhelming advantage on the offensive boards (11-2). However, that intensity ran cold in the second as SFA (8-2, 2-0 SLC) forced the Islanders into nine turnovers compared to their three in the first where they converted for 21 total points.

The first half also barely saw any trips to the charity strip for either team while the last 20 minutes saw SFA get the line for 28 chances compared to A&M-Corpus Christi's 12.

Three Islanders still finished in double figures, all starters, as Mason Gibson led with 15 points off a 3-for-6 night from three. He entered the night top-10 in the league in three-point shooting at a .422 clip and will improve that mark.

Sheldon Williams and Nick Shogbonyo put up 10 points apiece, with Williams one board shy of the double-double. Both have scored 10+ points in each conference game so far this season.

It is just the 11th time over the last five years that the Islanders dropped a conference game despite leading at the half, as that record moves to 40-11.

The Islanders will close out the nonconference schedule Saturday at home, simultaneously ending their playing at the Dugan Wellness Center for the year as Dec. 29 will begin the full run into conference play and the home contests being held at the Hilliard Center.
