Men's Basketball at SFA for Midweek Conference Contest

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Looking to continue a winning start to conference play, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team will get back on the road to face Stephen F. Austin in a league matchup Wednesday night at 8 p.m. in the William R. Johnson Coliseum.

This will be the second conference contest of the year for the Islanders after starting 1-0 for the second year in a row after defeating Lamar back on Dec. 6. 57-49. The Islanders are 27-13 in conference play under head coach Jim Shaw.

The matchup will be between the top two defensive rebounding teams in the conference, with A&M-Corpus Christi leading with a 27.0 average while SFA trails in second at 25.7 drpg. They are both also top-five in offensive rebounding.

The teams split last year's conference series, with each squad winning on their home court. In the last meeting, the teams played in Nacogdoches where SFA built a 43-26 halftime lead and despite the Islanders outscoring the Lumberjacks in the second, the deficit was too large to make up. Earlier that season, the Islanders won 67-48 in Corpus Christi in the conference opener.

The odds are in the Islanders' favor if they can hold SFA to under that 50 point mark again, as they are 30-0 including 14-0 in conference play over the last five seasons (since has been on staff) when holding the opposition to under 60 points.

The game will be available to watch live on ESPN+ and can be listened to live for free on 1440 AM K-E-Y-S.
