Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Islanders Stifled by #25 Kansas in Tough Atmosphere

LAWRENCE, Kan. – On their third stop of a four-game road stretch, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team faced its toughest test yet, falling 77–46 to #25 Kansas on Tuesday night in one of basketball's most iconic environments in Allen Fieldhouse.

The Islanders (1–2) showed grit throughout the night, forcing 18 turnovers and scoring 32 points in the paint, but Kansas' (2-1) efficiency proved too much to overcome. The Jayhawks shot 54 percent from the field while limiting A&M-Corpus Christi to 32.2 percent overall and just 7.1 percent from three-point range.

The 18 turnovers is the most Kansas has allowed so far this season, after their previous high of 14 in a loss to North Carolina.

Graduate Franck Yetna led the Islanders with 11 points, shooting .500 from the field while also locking down for four steals. Senior Sheldon Williams contributed eight points, his first contest this season not reaching double figures.

10 Islanders played double digit minutes tonight as the bench provided a lift, combining for 29 points.

Kansas jumped out to an early 10–2 lead before senior Kam Parker knocked down a jumper to get the Islanders going. Yetna threw down a dunk midway through the first half to make it 17–8, but the Jayhawks used a 14–2 run to stretch their advantage and led 38–18 at halftime.

The Islanders came out more aggressive in the second half, opening with back-to-back buckets from Williams and Yetna to make it 42–24. A&M-Corpus Christi continued to attack inside, with Daniel Michelini-Jackson and Leo Torbor contributing down the stretch. Yetna's late putback and a Cedric Horton dunk in the final seconds highlighted a stronger offensive showing in the half but Kansas closed it out with the 77-46 score.

Up next:
The Islanders will complete a four-game road swing when they match up against a familiar face on Sunday, heading up to Oklahoma State to face former head coach Steve Lutz. Lutz headed the Islanders from 2021-2023 where current head coach Jim Shaw served on staff as an assistant coach.
