CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team comes back home for a pair of conference games over the next few days, first playing host to Nicholls on Saturday at 1 p.m. before playing in a rare Monday game against McNeese at 4:30 p.m.
The Islanders (10-8, 2-5 SLC) most recently split their big city road trip last week, starting with a hard-fought win over Houston Christian on Thursday to snap what had been a three-game losing streak against conference opponents. The team was led on that day by an excellent performance from graduate
Paige Allen, who scored 17 points while also grabbing 13 rebounds, matching her own mark set on December 7 against Dallas Christian as the most by any A&M-Corpus Christi player this season. The second game of the trip was not as fruitful, however, as the team fell to Incarnate Word in San Antonio after getting outscored 24-9 in the fourth quarter.
Shifting gears to this week, the Islanders will try to get back in the win column against a Nicholls (11-6, 4-4 SLC) team that comes in having won three of its last four conference games. The Colonels also emerged victorious the last time the two teams met each other, earning a 70-67 win in Thibodaux on February 8 of last year despite a 16-point, six-rebound performance from Allen in her 35 minutes of action. The all-time series still tilts toward A&M-Corpus Christi, though, with the team winning 15 of the 25 matchups between the two.
Following this game is the showdown against McNeese (7-11, 2-5 SLC) on Monday, which was postponed from its originally scheduled Thursday slot due to inclement weather in Louisiana. The Islanders have had more recent success against the Cowgirls, winning each of the last four games and eight of the last nine to move the series count up to 15-9 in their favor. The last time they met came on February 10 of last year in Lake Charles, where A&M-Corpus Christi used 18 points and 10 rebounds from Allen and 16 points from graduate
Mireia Aguado to come away with a 78-64 victory.
Both games will be available to watch live on ESPN+ with Doug Kesterson on the call.
