HOUSTON, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team heads back on the road this week to continue their run through Southland Conference play, starting their trip off by taking on Houston Christian on Thursday at 6 p.m. before then squaring off against Incarnate Word in San Antonio on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Islanders (9-7, 1-4 SLC) will be looking to get back on track after dropping both of their games at the American Bank Center last week, falling in home contests to both Northwestern State and UTRGV. The former was a defensive battle for the ages, with the two teams combining for just 17 first-half points in what was the lowest-scoring half of any kind in program history, while the latter saw them come up short in the first South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union of 2025.
A&M-Corpus Christi's first crack at ending its three-game skid comes against an HCU (4-11, 1-5 SLC) squad that it has performed well against in recent times, with the team winning eight of its last 11 matchups against the Huskies dating back to 2020. This includes a victory in the most recent meeting on February 22, 2024, a game that saw current graduate
Nabaweeyah McGill contribute 12 points in 21 minutes off of the bench.
The Islanders have seen even more success against UIW (8-7, 3-3 SLC), holding a dominant 21-2 record in the all-time series. They have won each of the last 11 games against the Cardinals, with their last loss coming nearly six years ago on March 2, 2019. The last time the two faced off was on March 6 of last year, with the trio of McGill and graduates
Mireia Aguado and
Paige Allen combining for 39 points to lead the team to a comfortable 65-43 home win.
