Tennis Brings on Suarez as Spring 2025 Addition

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis team bulked up its roster on Thursday with the signing of Omar Suarez who will join for the Spring 2025 competitive semester.

Suarez, a native of Ecuador, will come to the Island from Cowley County Junior College just in time for the spring season. With the Tigers, he helped the team to a #1 national ranking among junior colleges, individually ranking himself as high as 15th nationally in singles and 3rd overall in doubles. He hoists an 11.8 UTR.

Suarez joins an Islanders men's tennis team that leads the Southland Conference with 22 total championships, holding the all-time records for both 12 regular season titles and 10 tournament titles.

"We are incredibly excited that Omar has decided to join the Islanders Tennis family! We had Omar ranked as one of the 10 best players in the nation in junior college and he is at an 11.8 UTR! He follows a great tradition of Islanders from Ecuador, including Islander Hall of Fame legend Jose Zunino! Every coach raved about his attitude, work ethic, and character! This process went quick because we knew we had the right fit! Welcome to the Islander Tennis family, Omar!" said head coach Steve Moore.

The Islanders are underway with their fall competition and will announce their spring schedule later this semester.
