CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Out of 24 Division I women's tennis programs in the state of Texas, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team has been ranked within the top-10 for the sixth year in a row in the final 2024 rankings.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its end-of-year regional rankings and the Islanders women's tennis team came in at No. 10 in one of the toughest regions in the country.
The Texas Region produced the national champion in three of the last four seasons, including this year's Texas A&M who the Islanders faced in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament in the College Station Regional.
The Islanders tallied in-state wins over Prairie View A&M, UTRGV, UTEP, Abilene Christian, UIW, and Lamar.
"We are incredibly proud of these amazing Islanders and the choice they made all year to be a true team, fight for each other, say no to excuses, and take the character road! We are most proud of them for the way they constantly pushed each other, encouraged each other, and looked out for each other! This was such a fun team to coach and these relationships will last a lifetime! Islander family always!" said head coach
Steve Moore.
It comes after the Islanders have won the last two SLC Regular Season Titles and four straight SLC Tournament Championships to reach the NCAA Tournament the last four straight years, the first team to do so in the 61-year history of the conference. They posted a 23-3 overall record and went undefeated in conference play this year.
It took two of the best teams in the state to take down the Islanders this season. SMU finished No. 5 in the Texas Regional rankings while Texas A&M went on to win the National Championship after meeting the Islanders in the NCAA First Round this year.
