THESSALONIKI, Greece – Alecia Westbrook of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team will be going pro after signing with Iraklis WBC and will play overseas in Thessaloniki, Greece for the next year.
Westbrook will compete in the 1
st Division Greek League with the professional sports team for the 2024-25 season which will span seven months from September to April.
"I'm very excited to continue playing at the professional level," said Westbrook. "Thessaloniki, Greece is a beautiful place, and I can't wait experience what the next level has to offer!"
Westbrook moves on to the professional level after leaving a historic mark on the Islanders women's basketball program. She retires her collegiate jersey after spending five seasons on the Island where she has aided in all three SLC championships the program has seen including regular season titles in 2018-29 and 2022-23 as well as the team's first-ever tournament title this past season.
It helped her conclude her college career at the Big Dance, as she went on to record her 82
nd career double figure scoring game in the First Round of the NCAA with 12 points against No. 1 USC.
During her time with the Islanders, Westbrook broke the program career records with 3,891 minutes played, 1,163 rebounds (829 def. rebounds), 543 free throws made, 720 free throws attempted, and 40 double-doubles.
She was named the SLC Player of the Year in 2022-23 to become the first player in program history to earn the honor and went back-to-back as the SLC Defensive Player of the Year in 2021-22 and 2022-23, again the first Islander to ever do so.
Westbrook is a three-time All-Texas selection, a three-time All-Conference First Team selection, three-time SLC All-Defensive Team selection, and was tabbed the 2021-22 Dave Campbell All-Texas Defensive Player of the Year.
