Women’s Tennis Set for NCAA First Round at No. 13 Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Making a historical fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team will take on No. 13 Texas A&M in the first round Saturday at 1 p.m. CT at Mitchell Tennis Center.

The Islanders (23-2) are set to face the Aggies (22-7) at 1 p.m. with the match available to be streamed live through Texas A&M.

It is the fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance for the Islanders, making history as the first women's tennis team in the Southland Conference to ever do so. It comes after they secured the SLC Tournament title for the fourth year in a row, their seventh tournament championship and 13th overall on the women's side.

It will be the 17th NCAA Tournament appearance for Islanders Tennis under head coach Steve Moore, who recently earned his 14th SLC Coach of the Year award after guiding the women's team to their second straight undefeated conference record.

"We are incredibly excited for these high character Islanders to compete in the NCAA Championships! All year long these girls have fought for each other with all of their hearts, supported each other, and pushed each other through! We have great respect for the Texas A&M team we play tomorrow, but also tremendous confidence and belief in these Islanders!" said Moore.

The Islanders also secured eight All-Conference recognitions with five First-Team singles in addition to senior Emma Aucagne earning her second SLC Player of the Year accolade. She previously won the award her sophomore season in 2022.

Aucagne was one of the five to grace the All-Conference First-Team for her performance at No. 1 singles in addition to making the Second Team at No. 1 doubles with senior Naomi Moi McKenzie. She was a First Team selection at No. 2 singles after going undefeated in conference and 14-0 on the year.

Fellow seniors Valeria Cherfus and Kateryna Rublevska earned Second Team recognition at No. 3 doubles. Cherfus finished a perfect 20-0 against conference opponents in singles after joining the Islanders last season.

The Islanders are carrying a 13-match winning streak into the NCAA Tournament, not having lost in nearly two months.

The winner will advance to face either Arizona or Oklahoma in the regional final Sunday at 1 p.m.
