Hammond, La. - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders will be the seven seed in the 2024 North Oaks Health System Southland Conference Baseball Championship beginning Wednesday May 22nd . The Islanders will have a first-round match up against the two seeded Nicholls Colonels at 4 p.m. CT on Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. A&M-Corpus Christ finished the regular season with a 22-33 record, which included going 10-14 in the Southland. Some highlights to this point include winning the season series against fellow Southland members #8 UIW, #4 Northwestern State, #3 New Orleans, and #1 Lamar. The team also defeated the University of Texas in Austin 4-1 on March 26th and finished off clinching the victory in the South Texas Showdown for the athletic department on Feb 28th with 2-1 win over UTRGV.
The Islanders offense has been led by the three headed monster of Issac Webb (.343), Cole Modgling (.338), and Sebastian Trinidad (.328) who all rank top eight in batting average for the Southland. Webb is also fourth in hits with 80 and third in stolen bases with 19.
On the mound A&M Corpus Christi has Matthew Watson who sports a 3.69 ERA and has struck out 72 batters good for fifth in the conference in both categories. Maddox Thornton has saved six games out of the bullpen which ranks third overall in the Southland. Zach Garcia has pitched the third most innings with 79.0 while also being in the top 10 in ERA.
This year's Southland Baseball Championship consists of eight of the nine members qualifying, with a double elimination format.
