Final Home Weekend on Tap for Baseball

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team will close out its home schedule this weekend in a three-game series with McNeese at Chapman Field.

The Islanders (21-27, 9-9 SLC) are nearing the end of the regular season with just two conference series remaining, first taking on McNeee (21-22, 5-10 SLC) this weekend in their final home series of the year. The teams will face off Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m. with every game available to be watched live on ESPN+.

Sunday will also feature a special pregame Senior Day presentation, where the Islanders will honor seven seniors: Sebastian Trinidad, Cole Modgling, Maddox Thornton, Evans Hendricks, Ethan Rivera, Austin Dean, and Samuel Feltz.

A&M-Corpus Christi is hoping to extend their hot streak, recently taking 2-1 series decisions from the top two conference teams in Lamar and New Orleans. In the series against the Privateers, junior Chance Reisdorph emerged as an offensive hero as he went 7-for-12 at the plate with three home runs and seven runs batted in.

He is averaging a team-best .348 batting in conference play, joined by Trinidad (.347) and junior Isaac Webb (.342) as hitting above .300 against Southland opponents. Reisdorph and Trinidad check into the league's top-10 for their batting while the former also ranks seventh in slugging (.591) and OPS (.994).

The Islanders lead the league in hits with 454 on the year. Webb comes in individually at second in conference play in hits with 26. The team is 7-1 in conference play when scoring at least six runs.

They are also leading the league in sacrifice bunts with a total of 32 on the year, ranking 23rd in the NCAA. In conference play, Modgling tops the SLC with five himself while Reisdorph and sophomore Christian Smith-Johnson tie for third with two apiece.

On the mound, junior Zach Garcia leads the SLC in innings pitched, throwing 37.0 innings against Southland hitters. In the same slate, junior Matthew Watson ranks third in batters struck out at 33 with Garcia trailing right behind him at fourth with 32 strikeouts.

McNeese leads the all-time series 25-18. The Islanders will be going for their first series win over the Cowboys since the 2018 season.

It will be the final home series for the Islanders, who will then wrap up the regular season in two weeks following a bye-week next weekend. They will finish on the road at Southeastern May 16-18 and could remain in Hammond, Louisiana for the SLC Tournament set for May 22-25.
