Baseball at Rice for Midweek Challenge

HOUSTON, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team will look to extend a successful road trip into Wednesday night when it takes on Rice in a 6:30 p.m. matchup at Reckling Park.

The Islanders (16-20) are coming off a road swing at Northwestern State where they won two out of three for the reverse sweep of the series. They have won every rubber match they've played this year, securing series wins over Abilene Christian, UTSA, UIW, and Northwestern State.

A&M-Corpus Christi has won five of their last seven road games, taking two conference series 2-1 in addition to a 4-1 win at Texas in its last road midweek game. In that win, the pitching locked in and locked down the Longhorns' bats to just one run off five hits. It included a three-up, three-down ninth inning from senior Maddox Thornton who recorded his fifth save of the year at the time as the righty is now up to six saves.

Against the Demons, the Islanders looked to their pitching staff once again in the deciding third game, with junior Zach Garcia posting the quality start for the victory as the Demons were held to nothing in the final three innings.

Offensively, junior Isaac Webb has returned to the top of the Islanders' batting with a team-high .366 average. He is on a five-game hitting streak and leads the team in hits with 53 which ranks 9th in the NCAA.

He is joined by three other Islanders hitting above .300 with senior Sebastian Trinidad right behind him at a .357. Both had a pair of multi-hit games over the weekend at Northwestern State with each trading nights to record 3+ hits.

The Islanders lead the league in double plays (29) and double plays per game (0.81). They are ranked 20th in the NCAA for turning 29 double plays.

The Islanders will be going for their second-ever win over Rice (9-24) after winning the last meeting 12-10 on the road in the 2022 season.

The game will be available to watch live on ESPN+.
