CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team will look to close out yet another successful conference season, honoring its five seniors during its final home match of the season in addition to fighting for another championship Monday against Lamar at 10 a.m. at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
The Islanders (18-2, 5-0 SLC) will honor seniors
Emma Aucagne,
Kateryna Rublevska,
Naomi Moi McKenzie,
Valeria Cherfus, and
Victoire Delattre in a special senior day recognition Monday in between doubles and singles, celebrating their unprecedented success since coming to the Island.
The seniors have helped guide the Islanders women's tennis team to historical heights, winning three straight SLC Tournament Championships to make three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances with the chance to make it four this year. Combined, this senior class has won four championships and will have the opportunity to make it five tomorrow as a win would clinch the SLC regular season title.
They have helped the women become one of the most successful programs in all of Southland Conference history, as Aucagne, Rublevska, and Delattre have been a part of three of the six tournament championships the program has seen. Only the Islanders men's team has made more NCAA Tournament appearances in the history of the conference.
The Islanders are coming off a fierce 5-2 win over McNeese to take over at the top of the Southland Conference standings. With two matches left in the regular season, they are close to posting their third-ever undefeated conference record and just one win away from repeating as the regular season champs.
Cherfus remains an undefeated 5-0 in conference play, all at court four. She recently was the clinching point in the match with the Cowgirls to maintain her perfect Southland record. McKenzie and sophomore
Palina Saulevich are also undefeated in conference play with a 4-0 mark each.
The Islanders lead Lamar 14-9 in the all-time series and have not lost a home match to the Cardinals since the 2009-10 season. They will be looking to extend their home winning streak to 45 straight matches, as A&M-Corpus Christi has also won 21 straight against conference opponents.
The women are also 42-2 all-time over Southland Conference members since the 2015 season.
