Women’s Tennis Heads into Battle with McNeese Saturday, Senior Day Monday

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team will battle out sole first place with McNeese Saturday at 11 a.m. before closing out its home season Monday at 10 a.m. against Lamar at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.

Going head-to-head with the only other undefeated team in conference, the Islanders (17-2, 4-0 SLC) will open their final home weekend against the McNeese Cowgirls (18-1, 5-0 SLC) for a chance at taking control of the Southland standings on Saturday at 11 a.m. They will then play their final home match of the year Monday at 10 a.m. against Lamar where the championship dynasty will honor veterans Emma Aucagne, Naomi Moi McKenzie, Valeria Cherfus, Kateryna Rublevska, and Victoire Delattre in a special Senior Day recognition.

"These high character, hard-working Islanders are so excited for the chance to compete at home Saturday at 11 a.m.! We have a lot of respect for McNeese and we expect a fierce battle! Our process is always the same: control what we can control, play each present point with intensity, and have the best team unity in the country! This will be a great college tennis match and I encourage anyone who loves tennis in the Corpus Christi community to come watch these teams battle for first place in the Southland Conference," said head coach Steve Moore.

The women are riding a 20-match win streak over conference opponents into the weekend. They haven't dropped a match to a conference member, including in the SLC tournaments, since the 2021-22 season. A&M-Corpus Christi will also look to extend their home winning streak of 43 straight matches spanning over the last four seasons.

Extending that dominance on their home court way before then, the Islanders are 41-2 in SLC play at home since 2015.

It includes home wins over New Orleans, Nicholls, and UIW already this year for A&M-Corpus Christi to move to 4-0 in SLC play. Matching that undefeated record in singles is Cherfus, McKenzie, Rublevska, and sophomore Palina Saulevich as none of them have dropped a conference dual so far.

McKenzie, the reigning two-time SLC Player of the Week, has paired with Aucagne at No. 1 doubles in conference play as the duo hoists a perfect 4-0 doubles record. Cherfus/Rublevska have paired at No. 3 doubles and are also undefeated with a 3-0 mark.

Overall, McKenzie is an untouched 10-0 at No. 2 singles. Aucagne has the most wins at a single court with 12 coming from No. 1 singles while Cherfus has neared perfection with a 15-1 overall singles record but is 7-0 at court four.

In conference play, the Islanders are 19-2 in singles and 9-2 in doubles.

With just three matches left in the regular season, the women are looking to defend their title after winning the 2023 regular season. The Islanders have won five regular season crowns on the women's side, tying themselves with Northwestern State for the league's most regular season championships.

The Islanders are 17-7 all-time over the Cowgirls and haven't lost at home to them since the 2014-15 season. A&M-Corpus Christi is 14-9 all-time over Lamar without dropping a home contest to the Cardinals since 2009-10.
