CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Looking to extend conference success into another weekend, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team will host HCU in a three-game series this Friday through Sunday at Chapman Field.
The Islanders (16-21, 4-5 SLC) will get underway against the Huskies (11-20, 4-5 SLC) Friday at 6 p.m. Game two is set for Saturday at 2 p.m. while the weekend will close out Sunday at 1 p.m.
All three games will be available to watch live on ESPN+.
The Islanders have taken conference series from UIW and Northwestern State both on the road and will be looking for their first home conference series win of the season.
They will look to junior
Isaac Webb to spearhead the offense, as the infielder is batting an even .500 average in conference play (17-for-34). He entered the week ranked #9 in the NCAA in total hits on the year with 53 and is coming off a three-hit night at Rice Wednesday to add to that mark.
Senior
Sebastian Trinidad and junior
Chance Reisdorph have started all conference games, each turning in over a .400 at the plate against Southland pitchers. The latter has knocked a team-high six doubles in conference play this year.
The normal weekend rotation of
Matthew Watson,
Riely Hunsaker, and
Zach Garcia have each pitched over 40 innings this season. Garcia leads the way with an untouched 3-0 record on the mound. Watson has struck out a team-high 54 batters to keep opponents to just a .241 batting average. Hunsaker is one of just three pitchers in the league to throw a complete game this year.
As a team, the Islanders lead the Southland in triples (13) and double plays (30). They have turned six more double plays than the next leading team.
The Islanders are 20-11 all-time over HCU and took last year's series 2-1 in Houston.
