Baseball Hosts Prairie View Tuesday, Compete in Exhibition with Corpus Christi Hooks Wednesday

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team will remain home to play Prairie View A&M in a nonconference matchup Tuesday night at Chapman Field before facing the Corpus Christi Hooks in an exhibition Wednesday night at Whataburger Field.

The Islanders (13-19) are venturing away from conference play for two nights looking to recoup, starting with a midweek against Prairie View on Tuesday at 6 p.m. That game will be available to watch live on ESPN+.

Although not counting towards their record, the Islanders will also take on the Double-A Affiliate of the Houston Astros in an exhibition game ahead of the Hooks' season opener on Friday. They will play at Whataburger Field Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m.

It will be the third meeting of the Hooks and the Islanders, and first since the 2022 season.

The last midweek for the Islanders was a stunning 4-1 victory in Austin that had them taking down Texas. It was their first win over the Longhorns in five years and first over a Power Five squad since 2022 when they took two-of-three from Nebraska.

It came after A&M-Corpus Christi opened conference play on the road for a 2-1 series win at UIW. The Islanders had hoped to bring that road momentum home but unfortunately fell behind to Nicholls most recently in the three-game series.

In game three against the Colonels, the top of the order for A&M-Corpus Christi involving senior Sebastian Trinidad, junior Garrett Gruell and junior Chance Reisdorph to go 6-for-14 with three RBIs. Reisdorph especially had a breakout series offensively, batting over a .600 over the weekend including a 4-for-4 night in game one.

Reisdorph now leads the team with a .368 average to rank sixth in the conference, as well as being one of five Islanders hitting over the .300 mark. Trinidad is also up there with a .333 while Gruell checks in at .323.

Gruell leads the league in home runs with seven and is one of three Islanders in the top-10 in total hits with 40, joined by junior Isaac Webb (46) and Trinidad (37).

On the defensive end, the Islanders lead the league in double plays (28) and double played turned per game (0.81). They rank 16th in the NCAA in total double plays.

The Islanders lead Prairie View 11-2 in the all-time record. It will be the first meeting between the programs since 2022.
