Islanders Defeat Morgan State 7-0

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Posting another dominate performance at home, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team took care of business on a windy Saturday morning in a 7-0 sweep over Morgan State at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.

It marks the final home nonconference match of the year for the Islanders (11-2) who won't return until they continue conference play on March 23 against New Orleans, and they ended it in sweeping fashion with the 7-0 score against Morgan State (0-5).

"I thought our girls showed up very determined to improve their process and play every present point with intensity! We are not there yet, but we're committed to working every day to get better and better at what it takes to be champions! We have a lot of hard work ahead, but I love the character and commitment of this team! Go Islanders!" said head coach Steve Moore.

The doubles point was clinched quick with perfect 6-0 outings from Ana Veroux/Palina Saulevich at court two and Kateryna Rublevska/Valeria Cherfus at court three. Every court was played out on the day, so Emma Aucagne/Victoire Delattre took care of business to finish out a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles.

All six then turned around to earn victories in every singles dual as well. Saulevich went unblemished on the day, extending the 6-0 scores into her straight-set win at court six. Aucagne and Rublevska then only gave up two games each as they followed suit to clinch the match 4-0.

Delattre won at court five next, posting a pair of 6-2 set scores. Cherfus closed out a 6-1, 6-4 decision at No. 3 singles. Veroux battled at the No. 2 spot for the first time this year and despite battling a tough first set loss, stormed back in the second 6-2 before closing out a 10-5 tiebreak to help the Islanders cap the undefeated day.

The Islanders move to 7-0 on the year when playing on their home court, extending their home winning streak to 41 straight matches spanning over the last four seasons. It was the first-ever meeting between the two programs as the Islanders take the 1-0 lead in the all-time series.

The Islanders will now finish the entirety of the nonconference schedule on the road, beginning with a trio of neutral matches next week against Abilene Christian and Alcorn State.
