March 09, 2024

FRISCO, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team had a pair represent in the postseason awards which were announced by the league office Saturday.

Junior Garry Clark was picked to the All-Conference First-Team while graduate Marion Humphrey found a spot on the All-Defensive Team.

"I am really happy to see Garry and Marion honored by the league for their tremendous regular seasons in conference play," said head coach Jim Shaw. :Garry impacted winning on both ends of the floor with his consistent scoring and rebounding while playing hard on the defensive end as well. Marion proved himself to be one of the best perimeter defenders in the SLC and a staple of our team defense."

Clark, a native of St. Louis, Missouri, was a two-time SLC Player of the Week this year, both coming during the conference schedule. He led the team in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 13.1 ppg and 8.2 rpg overall but 15.1 ppg and 8.3 rpg in SLC play. He finished the regular season topping the league in field goal percentage with 54.6% overall and 54.3% in conference play. In league play, Clark ranked third in defensive rebounding (5.7 drpg), fourth in rebounding (8.3 rpg), and fifth in offensive rebounding (2.6 orpg).

Humphrey, from Hoover, Alabama, joined the Islanders this year and ended tied for team-lead in steals with 29 in SLC play and 46 overall. It ranked him seventh in the league as he averaged 1.6 steals per outing. In addition, he recorded 33 defensive rebounds and five blocks during the conference slate.

Both helped the team to its third straight 20+ win season all with Shaw on staff. His rookie year at the helm also proved historical as the regular season finale secured him the best regular season record under a first-year head coach in program history.

The Islanders (21-10, 14-4 SLC) have earned a double-bye into the SLC semifinals and will begin the journey towards defending their tournament title Tuesday night at 8 p.m. in Lake Charles, La.
