A&M-Corpus Christi Hosts Morgan State in Final Nonconference Home Match

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team is poised for an early Saturday morning to welcome Morgan State to the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center for its last nonconference home match of the season.

The Islanders (10-2) have begun their journey towards defending their SLC championship already with a 4-0 win at Southeastern last week, but they will continue their path through the nonconference schedule with a final home match prior to the bulk of league play. The matchup with the Bears (0-4) will begin at 9 a.m.

"We are very excited for the chance to compete again at home and get better and better at our process! This senior heavy class has so much character, and they are so motivated! We are excited for the opportunity to play each present point with intensity, with our process, and incredible spirit in team community! Go Islanders!" said head coach Steve Moore.

The Islanders have already notched 10 wins on the year, and an undefeated 6-0 at home. It has extended their home winning streak to 40 straight matches, spanning over the last four seasons.

Seniors Emma Aucagne and Valeria Cherfus are each at a team-high nine wins on their year in their singles duals. Aucagne is the reigning SLC Player of the Week after getting off to a 2-0 start to conference play with a doubles and singles win in the opener.

Senior Kateryna Rublevska trails just behind with a 7-1 record, including a recent straight-set victory at No. 39 SMU from court five. All seven wins have come in consecutive order as the veteran bounced back strong after dropping her first singles dual of the season.

Senior Naomi Moi McKenzie hails an untouched 6-0 record all at No. 2 singles. She has paired with Aucagne all year at No. 1 doubles where the duo has posted a team-high six wins.

It will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
