CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Using the wind to their favor, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball team didn't drop a single set Friday, cruising past UTEP and UT-Martin both 5-0 for the first day of its annual home tournament at Water's Edge Park.
The #20 Islanders (21-4) continued their excellence through the 2024 season, reaching and passing 20+ wins on the year with dominance after posting 10 straight-set wins to sweep UTEP and UT-Martin.
It marks the third 20+ win season in program history since starting in 2016 and they've all come in the last three straight season. It is the second time the program won 20+ matches in the regular season after reaching 21 last year. With nine guaranteed matches left in the year, the Islanders have also secured their fifth straight winning season.
All five pairings stayed the same on the day.

Stephanie Young, the reigning SLC Pair of the Week, opened the day with a 21-13, 21-14 win at court three to get things rolling. They then clinched the match against UT-Martin with a 21-11, 21-12 decision.

Madison Morrow had the honor of clinching the first match after battling out a 21-19, 21-16 victory. They finished out against the Skyhawks 21-17, 21-15 both at court one.

Chloe Tome paired at court two for both and was consistent with a 21-12, 21-17 win over UTEP and a 21-17, 21-13 win against UT-Martin. The duo of

Tori Johnson toughened out a 21-16, 21-17 match one before cruising to an easier 21-11, 21-12 decision in the second match.

Kela Moreno helped round out both matches to secure the complete sweep, taking down each opponent in straight sets at court five.
The day also made history in the Islanders Classic being streamed live on ESPN+ for the very first time. A&M-Corpus Christi's final two matches against SFA and Texas tomorrow will also be available to stream live on ESPN+.
Those matches will be at 10:15 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively. Following the match against Texas, the Islanders will recognize upcoming graduates Johnson, Tome, and Young in a special senior day celebration.
