#20 A&M-Corpus Christi Starts Hot at SLC Midyear

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Going untouched on day one of the Southland Conference Midyear Tournament, the #20 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball team posted a pair of 5-0 sweeps over McNeese and Nicholls Friday.
 
Extending a momentum filled week after being nationally ranked for the first time in program history, the Islanders (15-4) showed out on the opening day of the conference midseason competition with two 5-0 decisions over McNeese and Nicholls. A&M-Corpus Christi is now off to a 3-0 start in SLC play, inching closer to defending their regular season title.
 
Courts one, two, and three pairings remained consistent for A&M-Corpus Christi as they all went 3-0 in straight set victories. Sophomores Kristin Bobay and Madison Morrow opened with a 21-15, 21-14 win over McNeese before dominating at flight one again in the second match of the day with a 21-9, 21-7 victory.
 
Hannah Doyle/Stephanie Young and Cassie Dodd/Chloe Tome stayed partnered up but switched positions between matches with each garnering wins at courts two and three in straight sets.
 
Court four saw the duo of Elizabeth Cortez and Kela Moreno against McNeese as they opened strong at 21-5 before finishing the sweep with a 21-18 set two. Moreno then partnered with Raven Jordan against Nicholls as they mirrored that first match with a 21-18, 21-5 decision.
 
Tori Johnson played at court five all day, first pairing with Jade Bennett for a pair of 21-13 sets before closing the day with Cortez in a 21-12, 21-14 triumph.
 
The Islanders will continue the weekend with another pair of matches tomorrow. They begin with a rematch of the 2023 SLC Championship final when they take on Boise State at 12 p.m. before facing New Orleans in a 5:15 p.m. night cap.
