Islanders Matched Up with No. 1 USC for First NCAA Tournament Appearance

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team got to hear its name called for the first time in program history for the NCAA tournament and it'll be quite the challenge as they got a No. 16 seed to be pitted against No. 1 University of Southern California in the first round in Portland Regional 3.

The teams will face off in Los Angeles, California in the first round, slated for this Saturday, March 23, at 3:30 p.m. CT.

The Islanders (23-8) are coming off their first Southland Conference Tournament championship to earn the league's automatic bid to the Big Dance. It is the program's third all-time championship, all coming under head coach Royce Chadwick and all coming within the last five years. It will be the first time in program history that the Islanders make back-to-back postseason appearances after playing in the WNIT last season, but first ever NCAA tournament appearance.

USC (26-5) earned the No. 1 seed after winning its second-ever Pac-12 tournament title, beating out top-seeded and No. 2 ranked Stanford in the final. They finished second in the conference regular season with a 13-5 record.

All games of the NCAA Tournament can be watched on an ESPN channel.

The game can also be heard live for free on the radio on 1440 AM NewsTalk K-E-Y-S with Doug Kesterson on the call.
