Baseball Welcomes Northwestern for Two Midweeks

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – With conference play on the horizon, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team will look to fine tune its play when it hosts Northwestern Tuesday and Wednesday at Chapman Field.

Both games are set with a 6 p.m. first pitch and will be available to watch live on ESPN+.

The Islanders (10-13) are coming off a difficult weekend with a tough matchup at #19 Dallas Baptist. Though, they will look to get back in a home rhythm after their last home game featured a dominate 14-1 run-rule victory over UH-Victoria.

Junior Josh Blount was the team's most efficient batter last week with a .412 average over five games. He knocked seven hits including three doubles and batted in a total of seven runs, recording the team's first four RBIs in the series at DBU.

Leading the team on the year is senior Sebastian Trinidad who is batting a .342. He leads the team in doubles (6) and RBIs (14), and is one of four Islanders hitting over a .300. The next three are juniors Isaac Webb (.340), Garrett Gruell (.337), and Drake Kerr (.315) who are the only three to have started in every game this year.

Webb and Kerr are both on a team-long 11 game streak of reaching base.

As a team, the Islanders are out-batting their opponents .273 to .254 with 12 more hits on the year. They have hit nine triples this season to rank #11 in the NCAA as their 213 total hits rank top-25.

The Islanders have locked down the infield, ranking #5 overall in the NCAA in turning double plays with 22 so far. They lead the conference in double plays turned per game, nearly averaging one per game (0.96).

On the mound, the weekend rotation of junior Matthew Watson, Riely Hunsaker, and Zach Garcia are proving their standings. Garcia leads the team and ranks fifth in the league among pitchers in ERA at a 2.40, having thrown three quality starts in the last three starts. Watson leads the team in strikeouts at 38 which is the second-most in the Southland. Hunsaker is one of just two pitchers in the conference to have thrown a complete game this season.

It will be the first-ever meeting between A&M-Corpus Christi and Northwestern.
