SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball team will return home after traveling west with another pair of wins, defeating Utah in a clean 5-0 match before starting conference play against San Jose State with a 4-1 decision Saturday.

The Islanders (13-4) picked up where they left off against Southland opponents, remaining undefeated with the 1-0 start to this year's schedule. They improve to 3-0 all-time over San Jose State, and 2-0 when playing the Spartans in a conference matchup after they joined the league last year. All matches between the teams have been 4-1 decisions with A&M-Corpus Christi on top.

It was the second-ever meeting for A&M-Corpus Christi with Utah, topping the Utes both times in 5-0 sweeps. It marks the seventh complete-match sweep of the year for the Islanders, the most 5-0 matches in a season since 2021.
"This was an exciting weekend for us, opening with a match win against North Florida and our 4's taking a game off of Stanford. Then we closed strong with a 5-0 showing against Utah before taking down San Jose State to open conference," said head coach
Gayle Stammer.

Four pairings remained the same throughout the day for the Islanders, with courts two and three staying consistent for the 2-0 day.
Stephanie Young/
Hannah Doyle paired at court two and was near exact in their two duals, posting a 21-15, 21-11 win over Utah before defeating San Jose State 21-15, 21-12.

Cassie Dodd/
Chloe Tome played at court three, as the duo dropped their first set of the day but rebounded from there, not allowing their opponents to score over 12 points in any other set to go 2-0 on the day.
Elizabeth Cortez/
Tori Johnson started at flight five for a 21-17, 21-12 morning win before Johnson joined
Jade Bennett at the five spot to post another straight set decision against the Spartans.

Kela Moreno notched a win in both as well, but first paired with
Raven Jordan in the morning for a grinding three-set victory against Utah that was never decided by more than three points. She then joined Cortez at court five in the afternoon as the pair cruised to an easier 21-15, 21-8 victory.

The Islanders will now look to continue their reign in the Southland as they next head to New Orleans to compete in the SLC Midyear tournament next weekend. There, they will aim at defending their regular season championship after winning the inaugural title last season.

The Islanders were picked to win the league once again in this year's SLC Preseason Poll. Under Stammer, the Islanders have never lost a regular season dual against a Southland opponent to now hoist a perfect 27-0 record. They haven't lost any match to an SLC team since 2021.
